Week 10 + Mid-Sem: Filling some cracks/polish

Achievements:

This week I spent most of my time polishing my game and completing tasks to make the game more complete. These included, adding statistics that track on the end screen, a quit button, a title menu with a brief tutorial, and removed the unity dialogue window when the game is run.

On top of this I also put in some more art for the game. I altered the key sprite to have a 'G', and drew a key, which I also animated to spin around. I also replaced the sprite for no fall zones, from red brick to a more ice-y sprite. (All in the above video)

Not all my time was spent just polishing elements of the game. I added a death effect to the player, a small burst of coloured particles, and added in the level I had designed last week.

I also animated the player this week. Initially it was animated for each direction, having the player squash in the direction they were moving. (Left Below)

Now however, they have one animation and the player's sprite stretches based on their velocity. The animation also stops when the player stops. (Right Below)

As a part of polishing, but also as a part of art, I drew a logo and title for the game, as well as replaced the icon for the game. Below is the title and icon, as well as the Exit button the tutorial prompt and the icon on desktop.

Challenges:

This week I had planned to design and build the last level for the game, however I never really had the motivation to do it. So I started working on polish and ended up getting carried away.

Also I realised I will probably need some kind of sounds/music for the game. And I have no idea what to do for this, however I believe the game is complete enough to the point that I will be able to experiment with this.

Plans for the week:

I plan to design and build the last level for the game, as I'd meant to this week. I will also finish off art for the game, Platforms, Start screen and end screen. If I have time after this, I will either start playtesting properly, or start working on music.
